A Fearless and United Church: Embracing the Revelation for Today

Introduction

As we dive into the Book of Revelation, it’s essential to understand that this profound text wasn’t written to address the specific events of our time, such as those happening in 2020 or 2024. Instead, Revelation was given to the Apostle John to reveal timeless truths and to strengthen the faith of believers across all generations. My prayer is that as we study this book, we will rise up as a church of faith, alive and vibrant, ready to face the challenges of our time with courage and unity.

A Frightened World Needs a Fearless Church

In a world filled with fear and division, the church must stand as a beacon of hope and unity. A.W. Tozer once said, “A frightened world needs a fearless church.” This statement rings true today more than ever. We must become a family of faith, living by faith, and not allowing trivial matters like politics or sports to divide us. Our unity should be centered around Jesus Christ, and everything else should fade away.

Awakening to Our Spiritual Reality

One of my prayers for our church is that we would be spiritually alive, not lulled to sleep by distractions. We need to awaken to what Jesus is doing in our area and be obedient to His call. Many of us are eager to hear a new word from the Lord, but we must first be obedient to what He has already spoken. Only then can we truly hear and understand His ongoing revelation.

Evangelistic Zeal and Spiritual Warfare

We must also awaken to the spiritual needs of those around us. There are people far from Jesus but close to us, living in spiritual darkness. We need to shine the light of Jesus in our communities and be known by demons as formidable opponents because of our faithful obedience and evangelistic zeal. The story of the seven sons of Sceva in Acts 19:11-17 serves as a powerful reminder of the authority we have in Jesus’ name and the importance of living out our faith boldly.

Understanding Revelation: A Letter, Prophecy, and Apocalypse

Revelation is a letter written to the seven churches in Asia Minor, but it is also written for us. It provides timeless truths that are relevant to our lives today. The book is not just about future events; it is a prophecy that speaks to our present reality. It reveals what God is saying to His people now and helps us stay grounded in our current day and age.

The Purpose of Revelation

The purpose of Revelation is to anchor us in the present and reveal the spiritual realities behind the events we see. It reminds us that we have a real enemy who seeks to destroy or distract us from our God-given mission. However, we must remember that God is not anxious or worried about the events of our time. He is sovereign, and His plans will prevail.

Living Out Our Purpose

As we study Revelation, let’s discover our purpose and destiny in Christ. We are called to be a kingdom of priests, serving God and proclaiming His glory. Jesus has freed us from our sins by His blood, and we must live out this freedom by faithfully serving Him and sharing the good news with others.

Practical Steps to Bless Others

Let’s not just be hearers of the word but doers as well. Identify three people in your life who need to know Jesus. Pray for them, listen to their needs, share a meal with them, serve them, and share your story of what Jesus has done for you. This is how we can bless others and fulfill our mission as followers of Christ.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Revelation is a powerful book that calls us to live out our faith with courage, unity, and purpose. Let’s embrace its message and be a fearless and united church, shining the light of Jesus in a world that desperately needs it. To Him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by His blood, be glory and power forever and ever. Amen.
